IVEA and the CRITT Matériaux Alsace attended the Ph.D defense of José Carlos Diaz Rosado.
His work dealt with the « study and the development of LIBS for in-situ analysis: application of in-line liquid analysis of metal in water ».

The study on quicksilver, copper, Chromium, lead and Cadmium concentration il water particularly interested us!

This defense took place on thursday 7th March 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Pharmaceutical University of Châtenay-Malabry.

Ph.D Summary :

Water contamination by heavy metal is a major public health issue. Controls and treatments are more and more severe and done on water for human consumption and industrial liquid waste. A reliable and sensitive analytical tools is hence required, adapted to the regulation and easy to use. The LIBS technique shows many advantages for in-situ multi-elementary (metal) analysis of water.
The aim of this work was first to study the potential of the LIBS technique and to show that the metallic particle size has a big influence. Then, the effect of the matrix (presence of humic acid, bentonit, and aluminium oxyde) has been evaluated. The matrix effect can be corrected by normalization of the signal by an internal standard.
